I went to my church camp this week. It was amazing! God worked in so many ways there. He showed me so many things.
At camp 11:45 we would go to mid-day. It was in the middle of this building, so there were no windows. They closed the doors and turned out the lights. Then Holsy or Christina would play the guitar and sing worship songs. It was wonderful! After around 15 minutes someone would start talking. It was usually our jr. high pastor but wednesday it was someone else. As he spoke, I found words. I pulled out my notebood and started writing them.
Here they are:
God has prepared a banquet table for you
But will you come and eat
The table is ready
Laden with food
But you choose not to eat
Why?
God is ready for you
As he watches
His jealousy burns like fire to hot to look at
It burns with glory and power
Come eat the food God has prepared for you
Let him embrace you in his arms PTL
I call this poem God’s Banquet.
God told me I needed to read this in chapel. I didn’t want to. My fear is standing up in front of lots of people and that is what I’d be doing. I went up to Jim Lee AKA Jr. high pastor and asked him if I could read it in chapel. (My heart was beating around a million times per second.) He said he’d like to read them first. I told him I’d give him a copy later. I gave it to him at dinner.
I am FREAKING OUT at chapel. I hid it. I had told nobody what I was planning on doing. Worship starts and I relax a bit, then the sermon starts I fully relax. I knew Jim would not ask me to read the poem after the sermon.
The next morning I was ready to read it. (we had chapel in the morning and evening.) God had calmed me down and prepared me to read the poem. I wasn’t sure if I was reading it anyway. I was sitting there chatting with my friends. Jim starts telling us the days schedule like usual. Luke was going to come up to tell us about the activities that evening then he said that I would read a short poem I wrote…
I’m up on the stage. I have little butterfly’s in my stomache. I walk to the mike. “Hi” I say and then start.
As I read I got calmer and calmer, I even looked up once. After I read worship started.
My friend told me later she hadn’t really been listening and saw me on the stage in the corner and thought I was in trouble for talking or something.
Later that day at the pool, a kid I don’t know came up to me and said “I like your poem.”
